Stamps may be used in the following ways:

¨ Line awareness activities, a pre-handwriting activity where children stamp between the handwriting lines developing visual focus and perception abilities as well as steady hands and accuracy.

¨ Directional awareness e.g. stamp a line of elephants; make sure they go in the reading/writing direction.

¨ Sorting - divide page in half and stamp things with legs on one side, things with wheels on the other.

¨ As some animal stamps face different directions, use the stamps to discriminate between left and right.

¨ Use stamp sets in themed activities e.g. pirates, sea creatures, farm, zoo, island, dinosaurs etc, to create pictures.

¨ Use stamping activities to mimic letters and spaces or words and spaces, i.e. put all the stamps close together just like letters in a word, put spaces between all the stamps just like words in sentence.

¨ Draw boxes and ask children to stamp the stamps inside the boxes without touching the edges of the box.

¨ Enhance children’s perceptual awareness: ask them to fill a page with stamps without getting any on top of each other.
